 Contact Lens Care

The care of the contact lenses prescribed for you at Harcourt Carter Optical is of the utmost importance. When your contact lenses are first delivered, you will be given instruction in the use of your lenses and of the cleaning and care of the lenses.
All contact lenses (with the exception of one time use daily disposable lenses) must be cleaned and disinfected every day before re-using.
This is done by the use of solutions chosen by your Optometrist specifically for your lenses and your eyes.
The solutions recommended for you by the Optometrist should be the only solutions used with your lenses. You should not change to a different brand or type of solution unless recommended by your Optometrist, as all contact lens solutions are not the same and some may not provide the correct cleaning and disinfection needed for your lenses.
Most of the solutions available for cleaning soft lenses are multipurpose solutions, in that only one bottle of solution is needed for both cleaning and disinfecting the lenses.
A protein removal solution is also recommended for conventional lenses but is not usually required for disposable lenses.
Re-wetting drops are also sometimes needed to keep the lenses moist and comfortable while wearing, especially in dry or windy atmospheres, or in air conditioning.

Cleaning of RGP lenses is usually done with a two step system consisting of a daily cleaner and separate disinfecting solution, although one step systems are also available for RGP lenses.
