Choosing a Frame
Spectacle frames are not only practical they also make a fashion statement. Before deciding on a spectacle frame you should consider, the shape of your face, the colour of the frame, your budget and lifestyle.

Spectacles can be a great accessory, enhancing your good points, minimising less attractive ones and balancing the shape of your face and frame.

Choose a frame to compliment the shape of your face:
For a Square shaped face look for a frame with soft curves. A frame in a dark colour will add to the upper part of the face. Avoid angular shapes and large frames.

If your face is round look for angular shapes that are rectangular or square, even a hexagonal or upswept shape will work well. Some width at the temple will make the forehead look wider and give the face more balance. Two tone colouring on the frame will make your face look longer.

With an oval shaped face almost any shape or size will work. Look for a colour that complements your skin tone.

Give a long face width by choosing an upswept shape that is not too small to counteract the length and narrowness of the face. Look for a larger frame in one colour.

In general the frame should be:

  • No wider than the face.
  • In line with the eyebrows at the top.
  • Not resting on the cheeks.

Choose your frame to be in proportion to your face, If petite look at smaller more delicate style frames, a larger face needs a more substantial frame.

Smaller frames are better for people who need strong (thick) lenses as the smaller shape will minimise the thickness of the visible lens edge. Rounder, less angular shapes are also better if your lenses need to be strong.

The frame material is also important, Plastic frames give a bold look and don't cause problems with frame allergies. Metal frames can give a more delicate look.

Titanium frames will give the look of a metal frame but have the benefit that they are light, strong and non-corrosive and hence will not give the skin problems caused by reaction to the regular metal material.

Rimless frames give the appearance of no frame at all but are very delicate because the lenses are not supported, and are not suitable for rugged wearers.
