UV LIGHT

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation emitted by the sun has been shown to be associated with an increased incidence of cataract formation, age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) and degenerative conditions of the anterior ocular surface.

Persons exposed to high levels of UV light would therefore benefit significantly from having spectacle lenses or contact lenses which include a UV protective filter.

Who is most at risk?

Is there good blue light?
Not at night. According to Harvard researchers, even dim light can interfere with a person's circadian rhythm and melatonin secretion. "A level of brightness of about twice that of a night light has an effect".

Prolonged exposure to blue light may permanently damage the human eye. Experts have been aware for some time that UV light can potentially damage biological tissue.
